Bitrot Detector 2016 Release 2 now available, with greatly improved performance

Bitrot Detector’s second release is now available! Its main change is significantly-improved performance. Scans are now performed much faster and take less time. Also, with this release, power users can now disable Bitrot Detector from loading itself automatically, and can open Bitrot Detector on a strictly-manual basis. This release is a free update for everyone who has a Bitrot Detector 2016 Release 1 registration key.

Bitrot Detector is a Windows utility that periodically scans your computer’s files and warns you of potentially undesirable changes, in time for you to restore damaged or missing files from a backup.  It is a great companion to just about any backup scheme!

You can download the free/trial version of Bitrot Detector or purchase a registration key ($24) to unlock the full version. A Bitrot Detector / Two-Click Reminder bundle is also available ($27; save $4).

Hourly Hacker News Snapshot now easier to browse

The Hourly Hacker News Snapshot is now much easier to browse!   I’ve added date and time controls which let you access the snapshot for the desired date and hour with great ease.

The snapshot collection can still be browsed manually, with hackable URLs, if you prefer.  For instance, the URL for the snapshot corresponding to July 5, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. is http://hhn.domador.net/2011/07/05/09 (times are in PST or PDT).

Many improvements available in Two-Click Reminder 2014 Release 4

The latest version of Two-Click Reminder includes a bunch of small improvements that improve the program’s usability and appeal.

TCR now allows you to remove reminder-setting buttons, to move them up or down, or to sort them.  Also, when you switch a button to edit mode, it will stay in edit mode until you switch back.  This is useful when you want to quickly change a time interval for a new reminder, since you don’t need to switch to edit mode first.  Also, TCR now has up and down arrows right next to the number of minutes, hours, etc. so you can quickly increase or decrease that number without pressing any keys.

TCR now responds more quickly even when a lot of reminders are set, as some performance issue have been fixed.

All these improvements can be found in Two-Click Reminder 2014 Release 4.  It can also be downloaded from TCR’s main page.

You can try out all of Two-Click Reminder’s features through a free, 30-day demo.  You can buy a registration key for $7.

The script and external installer can be downloaded from the project page. (The external installer on Download.com will be updated in a few days, but can be downloaded directly from the Domador Software website in the meantime.)

Recurring reminders are now available in Two-Click Reminder

Two-Click Reminder can now be used to create recurring reminders, which will show up repeatedly every month, week, day, etc. at specified times. The schedule under which a reminder can be set to display is very flexible.

TCR also sports new date and time controls that make it easier to select a date and time at which a one-time reminder will display. The date can now be selected from a calendar.

Finally, the “Dismiss Highlighted” button has been fixed (in the window used to display multiple reminders, when several reminders come due at once.)

All these improvements can be found in Two-Click Reminder 2014 Release 3.  It can be downloaded from TCR’s main page.

This update fixes a bug introduced in version 2014 release 1.  The bug kept reminders that were clicked and unchecked in the Pending Reminders list from being correctly deactivated.  Now the bug has been fixed, and unchecking reminders on this list correctly deactivates them.

In the past, TCR’s reminders had a tendency pile up on the screen, if several of them came due all at the same time, or collected while the computer was unattended.  However, with this release, Two-Click Reminder now collects multiple reminders in a single window, where they can be reviewed, dismissed and/or snoozed collectively or individually, at your leisure.
